How it works

How anonymous communications work

The whole journey uses one identity artifact — your wallet's PIC — and one short-lived, signed relay. No personal details enter anywhere along it.

One flow, zero personal data

Every anonymous conversation follows the same guarded, signed circuit. No step ever asks for your details.

  1. The Aithne Wallet

The Aithne Wallet holds your PIC — your public identity credential — and resolves trust services like Cumarsaide. It is not public yet; the wallet status page explains what that means and what is never collected.

  2. Present your PIC

When anonymous comm is requested, your wallet asks for your approval to present the PIC. You approve in the wallet — nothing is typed, nothing is shared beyond a verified credential.

  3. Merchant requests a relay

The merchant's site calls the relay endpoint with its PPIL client. The merchant holds the cts-api-key-cumarsaide license and signs with its own keys — under merchant control, never here.

// requestRelay (merchant side, per @aithne/ppil-client) POST /cts/ppil/comm/request-relay body: { pptId, purpose, commToken, addrToken } headers: correlationId: <non-empty>
  4. PPIL verifies

Signatures are checked server-side: the PIC trust path, the comm/addr token expiry and scope. The gateway is the ecosystem's checkpoint — no PII rides along.

  5. CTS signs an ephemeral relay

A short-lived, signed relay binding is minted: a relay identifier, a hashed correlation identifier, and an expiration. Tokens are masked in logs (abc****xyz). The relay TTL-purges itself.

  6. Converse anonymously

Messages route through the relay pseudonymously. CTS routes — it does not read content. Your conversation ends when the relay expires or you end it.

No step ever asks for your name, email, phone, address, or payment. If a step looks like it does, that's not us.

What we don't do

We never ask for

Your name — or a display name, or a profile.
Your email or phone — no newsletter, no contact form, no SMS.
Your address or payment details — those live in other Aithne services, never here.
Security questions or recovery data — if a credential is ever needed, it comes from the wallet attestation, not a form.

We never do

Store chat logs on this site — relays are ephemeral and TTL-purged.
Log raw tokens — values are masked as abc****xyz.
Link relays to real-world identity — stored identifiers are hashed pseudonyms only.
Track you — no cookies, no fingerprinting, no marketing pixels, no analytics ever

Frequently asked

Do I need an account?
No. Identity is your wallet PIC. There's no account to create and no profile to fill in.
Is my identity revealed?
No. The PIC proves you hold a real wallet credential. The counterparty sees a pseudonym, not you. Your name and contact details never enter the flow.
What happens to my messages?
They route through a short-lived relay and are not stored by this site. The relay expires automatically. Tokens in logs are masked.
What if I don't have the wallet?
The Aithne Wallet is not public yet. This service is wallet-first by design — there is no "type your details instead" path, and that's deliberate. The wallet status page explains the interim state.
Who is the other party?
Either a merchant you contacted or another party on a merchant's site. Both sides stay pseudonymous; trust comes from verified credentials, not revealed identity.
Can a merchant read my messages?
The merchant's hooks connect callbacks into their system per the PPIL contract. Message content is routed opaquely under the regulated spec's terms once ratified — re-verified by CTO on spec attachment.
